8/6/20 - This is a very nice example of the very well known and highly sought after Luftwaffe Inspected Ku marked Luger rig. This is one of the approx 5,000 that were produced with the Ku suffix, and one of only 2,700 that were produced with '41 date on chamber and 'byf' code on toggle. The pistol is completely matching and original. The grips properly have the full four-digit serial stamped inside. The magazine is also numbered and matching to the pistol, but we aren't certain the numbering is original. These were inherently crude in the way they were numbered, so can be tough to authenticate. Barrel and receiver are Luftwaffe eagle marked. The finish on the gun rates at about 97%, with minor high edge wear on the sideplate, muzzle and stock lug. The bore is excellent. Rig includes a spare magazine that is '42' coded as a replacement, and unmarked tool. It's completed by a fantastic 1944 dated holster. It's in excellent condition aside from the name scratched in the back. Three Luftwaffe inspection stamps and the use of replacement parts and a blue finish that was not as well done as Mauser production are all the classic signs of the Ku luger. There has been more speculation about the origin and circumstances surrounding these Lugers than any other WW2 Variant Luger. The prevailing theory is that they were assembled in very early 1943 for the Luftwaffe out of leftover Mauser parts by an unknown contractor that the code Ku stands for. This has been assumed to be the firm of Adolph Kurschner – Metalwaffenfabrik in Bavaria, but this may never be definitively verified.
